Writing Task 2 – synopsis

Our course for Task 2 writing includes 14 video lessons which comprehensively cover all aspects of essay writing, from planning the answer to completing your conclusion. Each question type is explained in detail, as you would expect, including strategies and structures to improve your paragraph building, vocabulary and grammar.

Course methodology

The course videos explain in a step-by-step guide how to answer each and every question type that is included in this part of the examination. These include:

  • how to identify and understand each question type – each ‘task’ – that might appear in your test. This includes the different variations in the question wording and how to shift the focus of your answer appropriately
  • how to focus your ideas so that you include relevant ideas which you can clearly and fully explain
  • writing effective introductions and conclusions for each question variation.
  • how to build high-scoring paragraphs which fully develop your answer as required to satisfy the grading criteria – present, extend and support
  • how to effectively express your opinion, including grading and distancing your opinion where necessary
  • a step-by-step guide for each question type which includes (for each type), question analysis and brainstorming, paragraph planning and writing the answer
  • for each question type you are shown paragraph by paragraph and sentence by sentence how to construct a complete and high-scoring answer including key points and examples for improving vocabulary and grammar structures
  • Where relevant, the necessary language to include within your answer, such as how to write about cause and effect, or express advantages and disadvantages
  • how to write coherently using cohesion and referencing to your best advantage.
